For a moment, the weight he has carried for so many years seems lighter.

At just 16 years old, Bishal has spent most of his life protecting others. As one of twelve siblings, he took on responsibilities no child should ever have to bear.

Growing up in the foothills of the Himalayas, Bishal’s family lived in crushing poverty. His father struggled with alcoholism, leaving the family without stability or even basic necessities. Eventually, overwhelmed by hardship, his mother left the family in search of her own safety.

For years, Bishal tried to shoulder the impossible burden of caring for his brothers and sisters. But in their village, another danger constantly loomed. Children often disappeared after being lured away with false promises of work and opportunity, only to be trafficked into exploitation.

When social workers learned about Bishal’s situation, they reached out for help. Soon, Bishal and three of his siblings were welcomed into our safe house, a place where they could finally experience safety, care, and hope.

For the first time in his life, Bishal found stability. He and his siblings received nutritious meals, warm clothing, and the opportunity to attend school. Though he had never even held a pencil before, Bishal quickly proved to be a dedicated student.

Today, Bishal and his siblings are growing up surrounded by love, support, and opportunity. For the first time, he can imagine a future free from fear and exploitation.
