Ahima’s New Chapter
Ahima tore another page from her small calendar, her eyes lighting up as she saw the red circle marking the start of her 10th-grade year.
Each day brought her closer to a dream that once seemed unreachable. This was no ordinary milestone for Ahima—it was proof of how far determination and opportunity can take you.
Four years ago, Ahima and her family left their rural village, relocating to the slums of Lucknow in search of work. Village life, with its open fields and familiar faces, still held her heart, but in the city, survival came first. Her mother found work picking up trash—exhausting labor for meager pay. Neither of her parents could read or write, which often left them vulnerable to the challenges of city life.
But Ahima’s life changed when she joined our slum school program.
For the first time, she held a textbook and understood that an education wasn’t just possible—it was her path to a brighter future.
At our slum school, Ahima discovered a love for learning, especially in her favorite subject, Hindi. The teachers, patient and encouraging, made complicated concepts easy for her. “They teach me slowly if needed,” Ahima says, a quiet pride in her voice. With every lesson, Ahima not only learned new skills but grew more confident in her abilities.
Beyond academics, Ahima also heard the good news of the gospel for the first time. She learned that she is loved by a good God who has a plan for her life. This knowledge gave her a sense of hope and belonging that she had never experienced before.
One day, she hopes to become a doctor—a dream born out of her desire to help others. This vision has given her focus and strength, driving her to succeed in all that she does.
Ahima’s remarkable transformation is because you believe in the power of education.
